Pharmacy Technician Certification in Ohio

Pharmacy technicians in the state of Ohio are not required to be licensed, registered, or certified. However, any pharmacy technician who will perform the following functions must be “qualified”:

1) Engage in the compounding of any drug,

2) Package or label any drug, or

3) Prepare or mix any intravenous drug to be injected into a human being.

 

The criteria required to be “qualified” include being 18 years of age or older, possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent, undergo a criminal records check and successful completion of either the ExCPT examination provided by the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) or the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (PTCE) provided by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
