Pharmacy technicians must recertify every two years. A minimum of 20 hours of continuing education (CE) is required for recertification. This keeps technicians up to date with the most recent industry standards and practices.
I am a Pharmacist with over 13 years of experience. During my years working, I have found that Pharmacy Technicians with training and certification are the best assets to a pharmacist and a pharmacy. Knowledgeable Pharmacy Technicians can command a higher salary and can move up the career ladder much faster. There is a huge need for experienced pharmacy technicians. As of 2006 there were 285,000 Pharmacy Technicians in the United States, by 2016 there will be a need for over 376,000 Pharmacy Technicians. This is a phenomenal growth for Pharmacy Technician careers!
